Our Journey

We believe that preserving a skill is not enough. A skill must remain useful, valued and economically viable for it to continue. That is why our work looks beyond documentation and preservation towards people, livelihoods and opportunities.

Why We Started The Bag Initiative

Because good fabric should not become waste. Some fabrics produced for export remain surplus after production. These fabrics may be perfectly usable but can remain unused or eventually be discarded. We saw an opportunity. Instead of allowing beautiful textiles to lose their value, we could give them another life. And instead of simply making a product, we could create opportunities for women to participate in its making.

Through our collaboration with Suruchi, we are developing opportunities for women—particularly women who may face barriers to conventional employment—to participate in home-based and community-based livelihood activities.
